Volunteering
PRC links enthusiastic and dedicated volunteers to various opportunities to assist refugees in the greater Pittsburgh area.Volunteer opportunities are varied and flexible. Volunteers can participate in one-time events or make a sustained commitment to a refugee family.

Community Tutoring Program
Adult volunteers are paired one-on-one with an adult refugee for practice
in speaking, listening, reading, and writing in English. Friendships often
grow out
of this learning environment. We ask a minimum commitment of 1 hour a
week for 6 months. Tutoring is supplemental to more formal English as
a Second Language (ESL) training refugees receive and therefore we do
not require that volunteers have prior training in ESL. Volunteers with
experience teaching, tutoring, or working with adult learners are encouraged
to get involved!
Mom & Baby Program
This team of volunteers works to support refugee mothers with new babies
and/or young children. The team collects items for newborns, shares parenting
tips, and provides mothers with some needed respite.

Community Events
Throughout the year, PRC organizes events where refugees and other Pittsburghers
have a chance to meet and make connections. Volunteers are sometimes needed
for event-planning. This is also a good opportunity to get involved before
making a more long-term volunteer commitment.
PRC holds regular meetings for current volunteers to share with each other and PRC staff.
